YouTube Script Reading Time
Video scripts are judged by time, not only by word count. A 1,000-word article may feel short on a page, but it can become a six- or seven-minute voiceover depending on pacing, pauses, and delivery style.
The Reading Time Calculator and Word Counter estimate both reading time and speaking time. Use speaking time for YouTube scripts, TikTok narration, podcast intros, course lessons, and presentation notes.
Practical speaking pace ranges
- 120 words per minute: slower narration, tutorials, or complex topics.
- 150 words per minute: a common conversational estimate.
- 170 words per minute: energetic delivery for short-form video.
How to use the estimate
Paste the script, check the speaking time, then read one section aloud. If you naturally pause for screen recordings, examples, or transitions, add buffer time. For short videos, every sentence must carry value, so use the word frequency view to remove repeated setup lines.
For longer scripts, break the draft into sections. Count the hook, body, and call to action separately so one section does not quietly take over the entire video.
