Meta Description Character Count
Meta descriptions are short page summaries that can appear as search result snippets. A character counter helps you write descriptions that are specific, readable, and less likely to be cut off.
There is no permanent pixel-perfect limit because search engines rewrite snippets and display them differently by query, device, and language. As a practical drafting range, many editors keep meta descriptions near 150 to 160 characters and page titles near 50 to 60 characters.
How to write a useful meta description
- Say what the page does in plain language.
- Include the main search intent naturally, not as a keyword list.
- Make every word earn its place because the space is short.
- Avoid vague copy such as “learn more about our services.”
- Check the final length in the Character Counter.
Example workflow
Write two or three versions, paste them into the counter, and compare character count with clarity. The shortest version is not always the best; the useful version is the one that clearly matches the page and gives searchers a reason to click.
If you are optimizing many pages, combine this with the Keyword Density Checker to make sure your page copy supports the same topic without sounding repetitive.
