Landing Page Copy Checklist
Before you publish a landing page, check whether the first screen, CTA, and body copy all support the same promise. A page can have a strong headline and still lose visitors if the next sentence, button, or keyword focus feels disconnected.
Start with the first screen
The first screen should confirm what the visitor expected before clicking. If you are still drafting the H1, use the Website Hero Headline Character Count guide to compare the H1, subheadline, and CTA length before reviewing the full page.
Landing page copy checklist
| Area | Question to ask | Tool to use |
|---|---|---|
| Hero headline | Does it state the main offer clearly? | Character Counter |
| Subheadline | Does it explain audience, outcome, or proof? | Character Counter |
| Primary CTA | Does it describe one clear action? | Call to Action Character Count |
| First paragraph | Does it naturally repeat the main topic? | Keyword Density Checker |
| SEO title | Does it match the page promise? | Meta Title Length |
Five-minute workflow
- Copy the SEO title, H1, subheadline, first paragraph, and CTA into one document.
- Use the Character Counter to check the title, H1, and CTA length. For button copy, review the Call to Action Character Count guide.
- Use the Keyword Density Checker to see whether the main topic appears naturally.
- Remove vague words that do not add proof, audience, or outcome.
- Read the first screen aloud and ask whether the CTA is the obvious next step.
Common copy problems
- The H1 promises one thing, but the first paragraph explains something else.
- The CTA says "Learn more" when the page really wants a user to start a task.
- The SEO title targets a keyword that never appears naturally in the visible page copy.
- The subheadline repeats the H1 instead of adding proof or context.
