Instagram Bio Character Limit
Instagram bios are commonly limited to 150 characters. Count the full bio before saving it so your profile can explain who you are, what you offer, and what visitors should do next.
Paste your profile text into the Character Counter. It counts characters with spaces, words, lines, and common social limits including Instagram bios and captions.
What counts in an Instagram bio?
- Letters, spaces, punctuation, line breaks, emoji, and hashtags all use space.
- Profile links and buttons may be separate fields, but any text you put inside the bio still counts.
- Emoji can be useful, but too many can make a short bio harder to scan.
- If the bio is for a business, include the clearest keyword or category near the start.
How to write a better short bio
Start with the role, product, or audience. Add one proof point or benefit, then end with a simple action such as shop, book, read, subscribe, or contact. If the bio is over the limit, remove filler words before removing useful details.
Quick workflow
Write one clear version, one shorter version, and one version with a call to action. Count all three, then choose the version that still makes sense without needing the visitor to read your latest posts first.
