How to Count Words in Apple Pages
Apple Pages can show word count and other document statistics, but an online word counter is useful when you also need reading time, speaking time, keyword frequency, or a downloadable report.
In Pages for iCloud, select the text you want to check or leave nothing selected for the full document. Click the View button in the toolbar, then choose Show Word Count. Apple says the counter appears near the bottom of the page and can show other statistics from the same pop-up.
How to count selected text
Select the paragraph, section, abstract, or response you want to measure. Pages updates the count for the selected text only. This helps when a teacher, client, or form limit applies to only part of a document.
When an online counter helps
- You need words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, reading time, and speaking time in one view.
- You want to check repeated words or keyword frequency while editing.
- You are copying text from Pages into a website, form, CMS, or social platform with character limits.
- You want a quick text metrics report before sending a draft.
Paste your draft into the Word Counter for a fuller view. If the copied text has spacing problems, clean it first with the Text Cleaner.
